Lia DeLand, in collaboration with IFS founder Richard Schwartz, created an IFS scale measuring different parts (see selfleadership.org).  One of those parts is identified as Anxious/Pessimistic, typically a vigilant manager.  This type of part has difficulty trusting others, maintains distance from others, are uncomfortable with emotion, and won't dare hope for fear of being disappointed.
