Lia DeLand, in collaboration with IFS founder Richard Schwartz, created an IFS scale measuring different parts (see selfleadership.org).  One of those parts is identified as Addictive/Impulsive, typically a firefighter which uses addictive strategies in an attempt to prevent exiles from overwhelming the system.  This type of part commonly feels out of control.
