Richard Schwartz writes that we must learn to befriend even our most difficult parts instead of vilifying them.  He writes “ We can’t become centered in the deep ground of our being by trying to flatten, suppress, deny, or destroy the feelings we don’t like in ourselves or others.”  Rather, “we must learn to listen to and ultimately embrace our unwelcome parts. If we can do that, rather than trying to exile them, they transform.”
