Some protectors fear that if they step back and allow you to work with the exile they’re protecting, you won’t need the Protector anymore.  They are afraid of losing their job, a job they have done all their lives.  Listen to the protector’s fears and validate their concerns. Reassure the Protector that no part gets eliminated.  Gently inquire, if the Protector could safely change its job in the system, is there another job it would rather do?  Let the protectors know you won’t do anything without the Protector’s permission.
