Lia DeLand, in collaboration with IFS founder Richard Schwartz, created an IFS scale measuring different parts (see selfleadership.org). The scale of Self reflects the degree of access that the individual has to Self compared to a high-trauma population. Two dimensions of Self were revealed in DeLand’s research. The first factor (Self-Qualities) contained items relating to the experience of being "in Self," such as feeling calm, balanced, worthy, connected, confident, joyful, and peaceful. The second factor (Self-Leadership) contained items relating to the ability to bring oneself back to balance when one has been hurt or stressed, such as the ability to resolve inner conflicts, to remain calm under pressure, and to self-soothe in times of distress.
